Your personal sphere of influence:

The Max Perutz Labs bring together the groups working in molecular biology at the University of Vienna. In order to intensify the collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna in the field of molecular biosciences, the Max Perutz Labs were founded in 2005. We maintain high-tech research infrastructures at two neighbouring locations, where around 450 scientists from more than 40 nations work in basic biomedical research in more than 45 research groups. As a technician, you will support the employees of the Department of Structural Biology and Computational Biology in research, teaching and studies and will be responsible for administrative and technical tasks. The position is provisionally limited to 1 year with the option of a permanent extension

Your future tasks:

Technical management of the Department's core infrastructure, including

  • Assist in managing general and scientific infrastructure (centrifuges, refrigerators, autoclaves, etc.), ordering service/repairs, disposal, inventory, purchasing equipment and supplies
  • Interface to the building technology of the Max Perutz Labs to ensure smooth operation and interface to the space and resource management (RRM) of the University of Vienna to correct defects, order inventory and manage the services of cleaning companies
  • Ordering and supporting electrical and mechanical machines in the department's workshop, training new employees
  • Support with general tasks related to teaching, contacting the IT team (projectors, PCs, etc.) and preparing lecture halls
  • Support in research operations: Operate laboratory equipment independently, carry out measurement and analysis work, support with research work and train employees
  • You work in teaching and study operations: this means that you support the set-up of experiments, help with course preparation (including lecture hall technology), train students and provide assistance, and work on projects.
  • Act as contact person for communication with service technicians and sales employees
  • As the department's security representative you have contact to the safety inspector, labor inspector and security services of the University of Vienna
  • You are a fire warden
  • You support the commissioning of new employees (e.g. first aid courses, applying for a poison license)

This is part of your personality: 

  • You have a scientific, technical or engineering degree, preferably at master's level, relevant to the above job description
  • You have at least 2 years of practical experience in technical management
  • You are motivated and able to carry out tasks independently and effectively
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German
  • You have exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to work in a team
  • You are service-oriented and like to look for solutions
